286832 2004-11-01 10:51:00 the two folders in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\
they just hold temp data, so would it be safe to delete everything in them?

computer got some malware and some are in there
i just want to make sure they are all gone even after the virus scan
so i thought i might as well delete the lot

if removing the files in the folders won't cause programs not to work then i don't mind getting back a few megabytes as well

286833 2004-11-01 11:01:00 The 'Temp' folder as in 'C:\WINDOWS\Temp', 'C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp' and 'C:\Temp' may be deleted without problems. Some of the files may be 'in use' however, so you may wish to try in Safe Mode.

BUT DO NOT under any circumstaces delete everything the Local Settings folder. Aside from the Temp and Temporary Internet Files, this folder contains most of your user profile information such as your desktop background, that little picture, start menu customizations, quick launch or not and everything else you change.

The only reason you might only see two folders is because the more important files/folders are hidden.

And of course, clearing the Temporary Internet Files won't do any harm but will slow down your internet browsing and make you use more MB's per month (which may or may not be important to you depending if you have broadband or not).

286834 2004-11-01 12:22:00 Hi george 12

You have me intrigued here.
I'm fairly new to this & am not young. I'm also self-taught.
You're young & computer-literate. Consequently, I take notice..

You say cleaning my Temporary Internet files will slow down my browsing & make me use more MB per month.
Well, the MB per month matters not to someone on Dialup 24/7.

So far I've assumed that cleaning out my Temp Internet files will stop my browser from slowing down. That's why I do it regularly.

Your post suggests otherwise. So what have I been missing here?

286835 2004-11-01 12:40:00 If you cache to many files on your system then your comp can slow down looking for the correct ones to display depending on the page your viewing,in this case its faster to download the page info and display it.

On my opinion its a big load of crock,i delete everything, and get the latest version of the page on every visit.

Translation, please for the novice..

What do you mean by "cache" in terms of Temp Int. files?
Is that where they're stored - or are we talking something completely different?

So when you say "I delete everything," that's the same as what I'm doing with mine?
Or not?
