286490 2004-10-31 18:57:00 I've never downloaded from a CD before now..
We're talking real novice here.

Normally I expect an indication of how a download/install is going.

I downloaded the Cashbook Complete exe file from this months PC World CD in what seemed like an amazing few seconds. It was listed as 5MB, after all...& I'm only on Dialup.
Then the install began with a "WinZip self-extractor., so I assumed that would be the thing that took the time...?
Yes, I did expect a long time, but that was at 1.45am - 6 hours ago.
All I have is a dialog box thanking me for downloading Cashbook Complete & saying "Unzipping, please wait."

So am I being impatient - expecting too much from Dialup for 5MB?
Or has this fouled up without me knowing & I'm simply wasting time?
(It appears to be still doing its thing, but no indication of time elapsed/ to come)

Advice, please - so that I can concentrate on today's more important tasks.

286491 2004-10-31 19:18:00 If you're just installing it from the CD, you don't need to be connected to the internet, so being on dialup shouldn't make a difference.
It sounds like there there was a problem with the self extractor. Cancel the installation and try again. :)

286493 2004-10-31 19:21:00 Firstly, you haven't downloaded anything using your dialup connection
All you have done is start an application installation from a CD.
I haven't got this months CD yet so don't know how the Cashbook installation is setup.

But normally when you click to install an application from a CD you will get 2 options.
1. Save this to disk (which should save the entire application installation to your Desktop) And you would start the install from there
2. Run or Open from here. (Which will either start the installation or unzip the installation files to a temporary folder, possibly C:\unzipped although you can specify where you want the files to go)
From there you would find the folder it has unzipped the files to & click the setup button

286494 2004-10-31 19:24:00 Thanks, guys.
That's all I wanted to know.
That is - it's stuffed up.
So I'm wasting time with it right now( When more important things to do)
I'll have another burst another time.- and maybe find out then what went wrong..

My thanks for your detailed reply (not seen when I posted my reply to the others above)
I'll take note when I try again.
My reason for the post was that there are urgent things I have to do right now.
And now this download has been aborted, it becomes less & less important in the family scheme of things....

286496 2004-10-31 20:11:00 Laura,
If you go to any of your other PC World disks the proigram is on them all.
I am using the complete version for my business and all my personal accounting and find it mostly Very Good.
You may have to download upogrades from Acclaim.co.nz but I did the same thing from their website via dialup and the download times were not excessive.
If you want some help post back and I will put my email address on my profile for you.
Regards,
Rob
