287382 2004-11-03 04:37:00 Hi everyone, I have set up my home network via a crossover cable. Both computers are late model Win XP Home ones. I set up the LAN via the networking wizard and everything was working fine until I installed SP2 on my client computer-and I could not share the internet! After many frustrating hours I uninstalled SP2 however I cannot get the Internet shared anymore-the two computers can see is other, all other tests show the connection is working BUT NO INTERNET GRRRR...I have searched on the net, and read all the previous threads on here regarding networking but haven't had any luck-need someone patient who can go through it step by step :O) charmed (1903)
287383 2004-11-03 04:41:00 Dont use the wizard. Enter the ips manually on both computers.

Just make sure the workgroups are the same.

On the main PC tick ICS under the dialup/properties/advanced.

On the networked one under the LAN icon, select use the following ip address.

Enter 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.0.1 and preferred DNS 192.168.0.1 or the DNS server ips for your ISP under preferred and alternate DNS server under the networked PC's LAN icon.

287384 2004-11-03 04:47:00 Yes all this has been done obviously which is why I cannot understand what is going on grrrrr I am on Jetstream BTW. This connection was going fine this morning and I cannot understand what has changed since then.... charmed (1903)
287385 2004-11-03 04:55:00 Well if u reinstalled SP2 turn its firewall off, if u have another firewall installed.

Or it might be that something needs to be added to the router, if u have one.

So, the networked PC can do something.

Have you got another firewall besides XP's installed and on??

287386 2004-11-03 04:58:00 I have configured my firewall to my home network and there was no problem before? I dont have a router as my computers are connected via a crossover cable... charmed (1903)
287387 2004-11-03 05:02:00 Dont u usually need a router for broadband?? If you want a networked PC to get on the net??

How long have u had jetstream?? The last few days / weeks / months?

I know u dont need a router for dialup, when on a network .

Coz I'm networked and on dialup and well here!

I think spaceman you meant "don't you need a "Modem"?" but maybe not, what do I know?

287391 2004-11-03 07:46:00 If you're using a adsl router, make sure you're using straight network cables, not crossover. I found that out the other week. phil.b (4456)
