| 287048 | 2004-11-02 07:10:00 | Read all about it folks: Intel Introduces "Extreme" Chip For Gamers November 02, 2004 Intel released its Extreme Edition Pentium 4 processor on Monday, a new platform that the chip-maker says is especially designed for people who like to push their PCs to the limit. The enhanced performance of the Extreme Edition Pentium 4 processor at 3.46 GHz is attributed to its large two-megabyte Level 3 cache and HT Technology. The new 925XE Express chipset... | 287049 | 2004-11-02 07:23:00 | And onother review (www.theregister.co.uk), more like a link to a review with more of the same here (www.theinquirer.net). Starting to get fun isn't it, nothing like a bit of cut and thrust in the market. Cheers Murray P |

| 287050 | 2004-11-02 07:32:00 | Intel is offering the chip at US$999 in quantities of 1,000. Doesn't look like cut and thrust to me,looks like an over priced non-event. |

| 287052 | 2004-11-02 07:49:00 | Pardon me, but who uses the inquirer or register for good hardware reviews? This article (www.anandtech.com) sums it up nicely: So there you have it folks - the 1066MHz FSB does absolutely nothing for performance. The 3.46EE does manage to outperform its 3.4GHz/800MHz FSB predecessor, but the margin of improvement is negligible. Looks like a waste of money to me - can't even beat the FX-55. :| |

Just making a mild point, people can read and make up their own minds as seen further up the thread and as you have done yourself ;) Cheers Murray P |

Ahhh, now now, Murray, not all of us are propeller heads or whatever the name these days is for computer-expert-geek. But nevermind. Starting a PF1 post with a non expert geek URL will bring out knowledgeable people like yourself. :) :) |

| 287057 | 2004-11-02 19:34:00 | The Extreme Edition is nothing new its been around for ages, Intel released a 3 . 2GHz EE when the released the new Prescott core . Its quite interesting the for their top of the line extreme chip Intel chooses to use there old northwood core with added L3 cache . Speaks volumes for their faith in prescott . From the benchmarks ive seen the FX55, 4000+ and P4 3 . 6GHz all out perform the new EE . |
