287393 2004-11-03 09:13:00 So you have an internal ADSL modem that you want to share. Sounds as though you have manually configured the IP's and you have all other networking options working (file and print sharing) but not internet. You mention you have configured your firewall as before but since your SP2 install the firewall might need to have a setting change to let the new connection through. What type of firewall you use? Disable all firewalls, make sure you are sharing the internet connection. You haven't got a bridge installed under network connections have you? SP2 may have installed one. Berryb (654)
287394 2004-11-03 09:42:00 Before I had a router, I had an Alcatel ADSL USB modem. Under windows it used a dial up connection for broadband & the network was configured seperately with manually set settings. I got rid of the modem ´cause it was a pain in the bum, especially under Linux. If you´re using USB or internal you should be able to do the same with the crossover cables.

Spaceman does know what he´s talking about, he helped me out the other week.

287395 2004-11-03 09:42:00 Hi there and thanks for your suggestions. I have checked and double checked the firewall status, and there is no bridge. I am at a loss at what the problem is.... charmed (1903)
287396 2004-11-03 09:58:00 I had issues with setting up Dialup ICS over my crossover connection... Was running ZA Free on both PCs and wanted to keep it running - print/file sharing was sweet but no go with ICS...

I ended up giving up with ICS in general and getting a router for use with broadband - really impressed with ease of use and versatility :D

287397 2004-11-04 05:20:00 Well just in case anyone was interested ater working on the darn computer all day I have fixed the issues and everything is working now-it seems that a program was downloaded onto the computer which was full of nasty spyware and that was causing the networking issues! grrrr....have now sucessfully installed SP2 on both computers and all is working fine-thanks for the suggestions guys... charmed (1903)
287398 2004-11-05 09:24:00 I got rid of Zone Alarm. It was too temperamental, I've got Sygate personal firewall. Altogether a much easier to configure firewall. No networking problems now. phil.b (4456)
