287110 2004-11-02 18:49:00 Hellllooooo NZ PC World.....!! Is this (establishing a computer museum, perhaps travelling around NZ museums) something that you guys could push along to make happen?

The next time I am at TePapa, I will ask them....

One of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC has a display of computers. When they are just on static museum display they aren't that interesting.

There is actually a Mac Museum in Newton, Auckland City. The museum is located at Magnum Mac and they have the first IMac sold in New Zealand as well as a few apples that look nothing like todays machines.

287113 2004-11-02 23:47:00 They have some really old stuff in the computer science museum at the Otago University.

I wouldn't really class 286s and 386s museum material. I can still remember playing Commander Keen 4 on them so they aren't that old.

Yup, but most of the computers are still in use running Xtra.

287115 2004-11-03 02:50:00 I know a collection had been started at Ferrymead some years ago but it was just that - a collection. None running and nobody attending. Obviously there will be a demand eventually. Old computers provided they can be seen working can be quite fascinating.

Yes, I know what you mean, but then again, how many people who now use 'puters would be familiar with 286 and 386's? Even for me (I am not young), a 286 is nearly ancient history, but for those in their teens and early twenties it would be ancient.
