| 287589 | 2004-11-03 20:14:00 | The file is found in windows task manager and is using between 85% and 95% of the CPU all of the time. Coupled with other runing processes, the CPU is at 100% usage. Google makes a vague reference to virus activity but in the end is not very helpful, or not that I can work out anyway. AVG and Trendmicro both say there is no virus in my system. Though for weeks I had real problems with a backdoor trojan. Anyway the end result is a computer, running win 2000Pro is now so slow as to be unuseable. I have chanaged the ram, power supply and defragged etc. My question is where can I go to find out just what this file is for? Oh by the way, a laptop, also running win 2000 does not have this file. And while I am about it, windows task manager lists 23 running processes, most of which I have no idea what they do. How/where can I find out their purpose in life? |

| 287590 | 2004-11-03 20:28:00 | Copy your running processes and post them here. 23 Is not an excessive list of running processes though. I don't have rpcxsys.exe running on my 2k box, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't, having said that it does look sus. Have you looked in Add/Remove for suspicious programmes, plus a check of your services in; right click My Computer, choose Manage > Services & Applications > Services. Do not change anything in the latter without checking it first, Black Viper (www.blackviper.com) has the good oil on what you can and what you should not change. Have you tried any specific ant- trojan programmes like Trojan Hunter, Hijackthis? Cheers Murray P |

Anyway D/L progies suggested and, I think it was called TrojanHunter which picked up 4 occurances of rpcxsys.exe. Didn't really say thay were trojans but bit the bullet and deleted them. Instant success, computer now fly's and everything is back to normal EXCEPT, I seem to have lost my mouse rightclick function, which was quite handy. Any ideas how to get it back? Windows help was not of much help. Course it could be the mouse has partially died :-( But hey thanks heaps Guys, really appreciated :-) |

| 287594 | 2004-11-05 21:14:00 | Your mouse may have required it's own drivers or a particular windows file to function that could have been corrupted or deleted?? Or as you say, it could be pure coincidence. Re-attach it then, reboot, it should be detected and hopefully functional again. If not uniinstall it from Device Manager, reboot and check again.
