287532 2004-11-03 09:06:00 Can anyone help.
Something has infected my machine. I cannot update any antivirus or spyware packages that I have. These packages state that they cannot find their servers.
Outlook express is also affected, I can connect to receive email but my user name and password are rejected for server access.
Email has to be viewed via the web. Conection to the internet via internet explorer is unaffected. All virus sweeps so far have found no problems.
I need to identify the problem to find a cure.

287534 2004-11-03 09:14:00 What version of Windows are you running? If XP have you recently upgraded to Service Pack 2?

Have you installed any programs recently? Did the problem start around the same time?

Mike.

287536 2004-11-03 09:18:00 Are you able to still download off the internet?
If so, download Stinger from here. (us.mcafee.com)
It is a nifty little program from Mcafee that detects and removes many of the most recent viruses.
It does sound like a virus situation though.
What version of Windows are you running -- if ME/XP then you could use system restore to correct the problem.

287537 2004-11-03 09:21:00 also check your host file. theres a few virus that put entries into the host file to stop you accessing antivirus sites. tweak'e (174)

287541 2004-11-04 09:47:00 if stinger doesnt do try A2 (a squared) that is also good or try downloading Fprot(free version) but you will need to f8 boot and and command prompt only and run it from there as it a command line virus scanner (sometime called DOS :)) beama (111)
