287611 2006-03-31 03:42:00 I had the same problem. I'm afriad you guys hit the wrong csrss in the wrong directory.

csrss.exe in the windows directory is a valid, required system file. You're looking for hidden, randomly generated subdirectories with csrss.exe in it. I had the same problem, but removed it somehow.

287612 2006-03-31 03:53:00 You might be able to use a Linux Live CD version (Knoppix, mepis, etc). You would need to do a "mount -o rw,remount ...." command to let you write to that disk and rename the file. Graham L (2)

A repair install of Windows perhaps. Be aware that if the repair goes wrong, which it can sometimes do, then you could lose the contents of your hard drive.

If you feel out of your depth and your data is valuable to you take it to a reputable computer technician and let them sort it.

287616 2006-04-01 01:25:00 Csrss . exe is the Microsoft client server runtime which generates worker threads for client requests . The confusion over csrss . exe comes from Trojans or viruses that use the same executable name ( . exe) as that of csrss .

The legitimate csrss . exe is part of the Microsoft client server software and is a very important part of the system which should not be removed .

One way to determine if csrss . exe is a legitimate file besides looking at the date modified is to right click on csrss . exe inside Task Manager and attempt to end process . Because csrss is a critical file, Microsoft should inform you with a message that csrss . exe is a critical system process and end it is not possible .

If you did not receive this message when attempting to end the csrss . exe process, then it may indeed have been be a virus . .

i tried to do a repair install of winows bt during the installation from the bootable xp cd it says that it could not find any available hdisk(sata hdisk, the main one) . . and i also did disconnected my other ide hdisk bfore trying to do the repair installation . just as an info i have been using this computer like almost a year and did not do any changes to the hdisk ever since .

"The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon . exe or Csrss . exe fails . "

ok i did rename the csrss . exe file before i got the problem and thats it . . . does that mean all my programs and files are still there and i just need to find a way to rename that file back?
