287585 2004-11-03 21:23:00 That coffee cup thing has been around for a long time. I can't recall where I first read it but it was in one of the local mags. Didn't need any It wizardry to run. In this day and age I wouldn't use the firm's syatem for anything other than their business, whether it was lunch time of not. Scouse (83)

That's a pretty funny story, isn't it? Now, please click here. Did your coffee cup holder suddenly appear? If so, you may need to take steps to ensure that your computer is protected.

The script that opened the door to your CD player is completely harmless. It is a program that runs in your browser, a program that could include code to do a number of not-so-nice things to your computer. Fortunately, it doesn't.

Now perhaps you understand how things can be done to your computer without your consent. If you have been the victim of of one of these tricks your computer may be running rather slowly. If you don't already have them, download and install AdAware and SpyBot to clean out some of the gremlins from your computer. Both are excellent and both are free.

287587 2004-11-03 21:45:00 What people have to relaise is that there is nothing private about a network. The IT department can monitor everything if they want. Your websurfing, email etc can be all logged. The business own the equipment, it is there liability if things go wrong and the Police come a knocking.
I did think though that there should be a company document or something in the employment contract that says about keylogging and remote monitoring or at least an internet policy document.
