288471 2004-11-06 03:47:00 IBM's BlueGene/L has just done 70.72 teraflops and it isn't complete yet. Check it out here.

288472 2004-11-06 04:07:00 Aww.

At maximum speed mine can only do 1.88 teraflops. That's overclocked to 10.2Ghz.

288473 2004-11-06 04:16:00 Well, perhaps I may have slightly exaggerated.

The actual figure is:

3762 MWIPS (WhetStone FPU) (or, 0.004 teraflops rounded).
7514 MDIPS (DhryStone ALU)

What is the difference between FPU (floating point _______?) and ALU?

288474 2004-11-06 05:23:00 FPU si floting point math EG devideing and big numbers

ALU is all about the logic EG AND OR and NOT functions.

most of the time you will find that ALU speed iis closly linked to the clock speed and FPU is more about that CPU design.

288475 2004-11-06 05:28:00 Oow and it just beat the new Nasa one (inhome.rediff.com) by 30teraflops :O

With that sort of computing power I bet you they can break your 4096bit PGP key in no time.

288476 2004-11-06 06:18:00 It seems Intel beat AMD in ALU, but AMD KICK ASS in FPU by an amazing factor.

Looks like my next system will be AMD.

I bet your PGP will still be secure for your lifetime. Vince ;-)

If it ran Windows, would it be a megaflop ?

Most definitely lol.
