288752 2004-11-09 03:35:00 I have to say Baldy, that this is possibly the most off the wall OT thread ever. There have been some pretty good ones in the past, but if "Wheres the best place to buy a Goat" doesn't top them all, it has surely got to be right up there with the greats! :^O

An absolutely inspired question, even if it was prompted by a genuine need for a fossil-fuel-free lawn mower. Makes me grin every time I pass it in the thread list.

Cheers

288753 2004-11-09 20:39:00 In Invercargill I'd direct you to Todds auctions. They have livestock auctions - hens, ducks, goats etc, every Friday morning. I imagine there would be somewhere similar in Dunedin.

Give PGG a ring. They should know.

An alternative to a goat is a pet sheep, which will stay around. Or two bog standard sheep but you'll need to hobble them. You need two because sheep are social animals and one by itself will fret and wander off. Two stay together.

A pet sheep (ex-pet lamb) on the other hand is not a sheep. It is a human who isn't, for some reason it can't grasp, allowed inside the house. Won't have a bar of other sheep or (shudder) dogs. :D

288754 2004-11-09 21:07:00 I've got a patch of pasture up one end of my bush property and neighbours put their horses in there every so often.

Dummy electric fence is enough if they're electric fence literate.

Keeps the growth down and the poop goes on the garden.:D
