| 288058 | 2004-11-05 01:37:00 | I have a friends laptop he has given me for repair I have sourced a new power supply & it arrived today Now that I have power & the machine boots I discover it has a boot password on it It stops me accessing the floppy so I can't run any BIOS pwd crackers or CMOS Kill etc It's an Acer Travelmate 512DX I've googled to death & come up with nothing. I've had it to bits & the battery out for over an hour, with no luck I can't find any jumpers on the board for clearing the BIOS I don't know what BIOS it has so can't try any of the default/Factory ones I've found so far I believe Acer used to have their own BIOS's made up? I'm buggered!!! Any ideas or does anyone have a list of Factory passwords I could try? The lappy belonged to my friends 14yr old son who died a couple of years ago, so finding out what the password is isn't an option. Thanks |

| 288062 | 2004-11-05 02:17:00 | Thanks Rob99, already been there as well with no luck leaving the battery out for 24hrs this time as I read some manufacturers back the password up to a capacitor as well in case the battery needs replacing. |

| 288063 | 2004-11-05 02:25:00 | If that works, remember to explicitly save the the BIOS settings with the password disabled. The memory locations aren't properly erased by the power off. They only have "proper" settings when they have been written. | Graham L (2) | ||
| 288064 | 2004-11-05 02:47:00 | I've put the battery back in for another try & the BIOS password has been disabled but now it wants a hard disk password DAMN!! I read somewhere they can have 2 levels of protection so back to google again. I can access the BIOS now but can't change the HDD password in the BIOS without the old one |

| 288066 | 2004-11-05 03:07:00 | Thanks Graham, I've set a new 'Setup pwd' & a new 'Power on Password' saved & rebooted Both passwords work but still won't allow me to change the 'Hard Disk Password' or access floppy or CDROM to hack it Oh Boy! |

| 288067 | 2004-11-05 03:16:00 | This from a UK Company that specialises in password removal on lappys @ approx $300 a shot "Supervisor & User password removal does not include Hard Disk password removal; Hard Disk password removal can be done, but is not normally economical" Looks like I'm going to be s*** out of luck |
