289152 2004-11-07 23:57:00 Looking for a DVD writer, but before giving my hard earn money away, I would like to know more about it. Here are some of my questions:

1. Can DVD writer perform 'multi-session' recordings like CD writer does?
2. Shall I get a dual-layer or a single layer?
3. As regards speed, I notice there are 8X, 12X and 16X available. How fast are they, actually? 8X, 12X or 16X of what?
4. What brand and model to recommend, in terms of performance and reliability? My budget: < $250.00

A 16x DVD writer take as long to write a DVD as it takes for a 16x CD-RW to write a CD

For those that don't wish to read it all, the NEC ND-3500A is the pick.. followed by the LG GSA-4160B and the Pioneer 108, all 3 drives are available in NZ.

I took the step on the weekend after watching and waiting for a couple of years, I bought the LG writer, Dual layer, 16x and all formats +R/RW -R/RW & RAM. I purchased a bundle deal including 50 -R disks for $188 + Grab Snatch and Take.

From our results, we can see that the Pioneer DVR-108D, LG GSA-4160B, and NEC's ND-3500A came out on top with their ability to burn any type of media almost flawlessly as well as burn 2 . 4X dual layer media at 4 . 0X speeds (DVR-108D & ND-3500A) . Our graphical presentations show that these three drives have the best read and write performance as far as DVD+/-R/RW media goes, and also top the list in dual layer write performance . The ND-3500A does have the highest CD read and right speeds by a hair, with LG's GSA-4160B coming in at second resulting in read/write times of 32 . 80X/29 . 15X, respectively .



Editors Choice goes to NEC's ND-3500A for it’s exceptional DVD+DL, DVD+/-R, CDR write speed and quality at a fair price .

289160 2004-11-08 01:43:00 Personally I just burn Single-Layered Disc's at 4x. Takes about 15 mins per Disc.

I use Princo A-Grade DVD-R's with no worries. Just purchased 50 for $34 + gst.

I dont know of any local retailers for 8x <-> 16x DVD+/-R's or Dual-Layered Disc's for cheap enough to justify the purchase and time saved. 		Chilling_Silence (9)

Dont know what they come with tho.
