| 289088 | 2004-11-07 23:06:00 | hi friends, i have a small C-drive for the OS (Windows XP, with SP2) and have all data stored on a separate big 160 GB hard disk. The my documents folder, that is assigned to my user profile is on the C drive. How can I limit everyones access (we have often guests around the house) to the folder with my personal files on the big 160 GB drive? Cheers Johan North Shore City |

| 289089 | 2004-11-07 23:31:00 | If you have Windows XP Home, you can change the folder security to "Make this folder private". This is found in the folder properties (right click on the folder), in the Security tab. this way only you can access it when you are logged in as you. If you create a separate login account for guests, this will prevent them from being able to access your account. Don't forget to password protect your account. If you have Windows XP Pro, you can set the permissions for a particular folder. Set it so only you have full-access permissions, and everybody else is denied access. |

| 289095 | 2004-11-08 19:26:00 | XP Pro is a little more complex, as it is more similar to the NTFS file security seen in Windows 2000. You will need to set it so that you have "Full Control", and delete all other people from the allow list. That way only you can access your files. It is useful sometimes to keep it so that "Administrator" has access to your files as well. |
