1374195 2014-05-06 04:30:00 Today I put all my components into the old case, everything has gone in perfectly...

The problems are the DVD drive connection:

and the connector to the power switch

both are probably outdated as there is nothing on the motherboard for them, the DVD - well if I must buy a new one I must, the power switch is a distinct worry. New Motherboard is Asus Gryphon Z87

HELP! please:dogeye:

1374196 2014-05-06 04:39:00 Yup just buy a SATA dvd if there's only sata connections. They're only $40 or something. Is the power switch thing labelled? Like a modern case???? Thats the only thing with branded systems / cases. They're not always compatible with anything else Speedy Gonzales (78)
1374197 2014-05-06 04:44:00 There is an 'Acer' tag on the wires (picture #3) - TBH I didn't pull that assembly apart because I (optimistically) assumed it would just plug in like everything else. Did you look at the photo's? Are they any help? EFFIGY (12530)
1374198 2014-05-06 04:49:00 The IDE cable -- Since motherboards don't come with IDE ports these days, if you want to use the existing Drive you can put in a PCI card that has IDE ports on it. BUT not to sure how much thy are and they can give troubles. A much easier solution is to buy a new optical Drive, they are cheap enough today.

The easy one (Most times) I do this all the time, 1st go see your local repair computer shop, or someone who has a old or dead PC they no longer want, get the two pinned connectors, you'll need at least 4 - Any computer repair place will have them, they should just give you them from an old PC (mind you some places are real pricks and would charge) then you need a needle, and remove the wires from the original header by lifting the plastic lug and pulling out the connector.

Look at the wires, there will be two twisted together ( white and another colour), follow then back making sure you don't get them mixed up, and one will lead to the Power Switch, Reset, HDD led and power LED. simply get the right wires in the double headers and plug into the motherboard where required. ( may sound awkward but really its simple, you only have to make sure you get the right wires for the right activity ( see pics)

red/White is often HDD LED

1374199 2014-05-06 05:06:00 Thanks Wai! I can do that! The local Hospice has its weekly garage sale on Wednesdays, they have more old PC's than you can poke a stick at.
My local PC repair shop would charge you for the anti static bag the old part came in - they were horrid to me, clearly I don't look like someone who could build their own PC - I will never go back there. Honestly, I mean - its not like PC's are sacred knowledge - wow they made me mad!

1374200 2014-05-06 05:12:00 Does this acer case have a model?? Might help then we can see what connections are what. Is that the model # under the acer tag?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1374201 2014-05-06 05:20:00 When it began life in 2007 it *was* an Acer M3100. EFFIGY (12530)
1374202 2014-05-06 05:35:00 This looks like the manual (www.google.co.nz uals%2Facer%2F0000%2Fservicemanuals%2FS.G_Aspire%2 520M5200_%2520M3200_M1200_BOOK.pdf&ei=n2NoU4yGCcfdkAXX9ICIBQ&usg=AFQjCNGR9XdNlMK06nAHvacHxtstICC_Aw&bvm=bv.66111022,d.dGI)

If it is this looks like the diagram for the front panel...attached
