Unless this person had a record and they accessed the cop computer, or was known to the shop people that means nothing. I had something stolen at a mall once, yes there was footage, no it didn't help as it showed some person no-one recognised who vanished off camera. Not helpful at all.	pctek (84)

The bank would have to cooperate but it's certainly a possibilty. Or maybe he's a regular and the store identified him once they knew to look.	dugimodo (138)

What era are you living in? Everything around is in the public space is recorded. 1) Most people buy Lotto from dairies, in their neighborhood. And for the most part the owners know their regulars. Ever chat with people? 2) If the person isn't recignised then look at the rego of the car they get into. If you are motivated, it is extremely easy to find anyone at all. I also believe credit card receipts have the name printed on them if you have to sign. Credit and debit cards leave the last 4 number even if you have a pin. dugimodo: A bank can't give out info, they are bound by privacy laws - although they could easily be found based on the transaction number on the receipts, they could contact the owner on someone else's behalf. Firstly, it is possible that they could have identified his vehicle but that mall does not have security cameras all over the car park so it would have been difficult to follow him to the vehicle he got into via CCTV . Secondly, the supermarket in question does not deal with manual credit card transactions so he would not have signed his voucher . Thirdly, I believe that any bank would be forthcoming with a customer's contact details if they thought there was any chance that $23 million might be coming their way as a result, provided that their disclosure was confidential . Given that the Lotto people declined to elaborate, for "privacy reasons", on the method they used to identify the winner I would say that it is quite likely that the bank did indeed hand over the contact details . 1356560	2013-10-20 09:42:00	Surely if they were able to track him down through efpos records and privacy laws prevented the bank from telling lotto who the lucky winner was then the bank would be able to contact the customer directly. I usually park my car in the underground car park at Pak n Save. They do have CCTV in the underground car park.	Bobh (5192)
