2014-05-04 23:58:00 | So when does the flashing happen?? When you reboot? Does it just flash or is there a window now and it flashes? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2014-05-05 00:09:00 | See if this helps (www.kapilarya.com) You have to go into the registry and see if Load is under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows This info also appears here (windows7themes.net) It looks like that unknown hard error can be caused by the hdd itself, or something that's installed, that's conflicting So it looks like it can happen in Win7 and 8 There maybe file corruption too, which can also cause this prob (www.howtogeek.com) this is in XP

2014-05-05 00:12:00 | Astoundingly long reboot process. That alone seems wrong on such a new machine. The flashing occurs after I sign in to the user account. First screen is 'Start', then a blue screen then a grey bar appears across the bottom with a white windows icon far at the lower far left corner, then the cycle starts over. | EFFIGY (12530) | |

2014-05-05 00:21:00 | Safe mode is supposed to start if you press the power button 2 or 3 times, but it isn't happening. | EFFIGY (12530) | |

2014-05-05 00:36:00 | I'm going out for a couple of hours - right now returning the machine to Dick Smith is looking good. It's still under warranty and we all have better things to do with our time. I feel for the boy, he's 17 and he worked all Christmas holidays for the money to buy this.

2014-05-05 00:44:00 | A warranty wont cover it if its software related. Yes its hard for people esp when they have saved a long time to get a New PC and it plays up. What DS would more than likely do is run the factory restore back to as it was when first purchased, then if it still plays up "then" they should do something about it -- Which would mean sending it to HP, I doubt DS would replace directly ( they might but don't count on it). HP's own site suggests a refresh, which is what you should try first. Save any data that's on it because it WILL wipe out everything.

2014-05-05 05:10:00 | Fixed, but also wiped. Restoring the personal settings and software will be another day. Refresh was the answer. I will NOT be updating to 8.1 again. | EFFIGY (12530) | |
