High Vis Jacket, Steel Capped Boots, Safety Glasses, Hard Hat, Gloves, Earmuffs etc. Then you must surround the vehicle with cones and engage at least six “Arrow Trucks” to divert traffic. ;) Once all that is in place, remove the radiator cap and fill with water. (just tape the split hose for now) then start the vehicle. I’m picking the problem will be a dead giveaway one way or other. ;) You can also test your safety gear by closely watching the goings on in the radiators top tank. :crying The sad part about that is, it's all true. At the local tip, Osh has put a bar up about 8ft from hole where rubbish goes, which means, you have to through stuff over bar, then climb over bar and through down hole, and fall down hole if so inclined. Just means you have to double handle , brilliant. |

But did he check what was happening in the Radiators top tank? He may have to give it a rev. ;) I'll have a $ on blown head gasket. ;) |

He may have to give it a rev. ;) I'll have a $ on blown head gasket. ;) He's sad, he has had it for ages and loved his ute. That's why he tried....he came in eventually and said it's come to the end of it's life. Yes, he's checked in the radiator. It's fine. It's just old and struggling now. Head gaskets.......mmmm........in all the cars we have ever had, it has always been a waste of time. Even heads themselves, my son tried that. Replaced it, and then it went on to use oil, until it was up to 2 litres a day. Then he finally gave up on it. When a motor goes, it goes, well, it can run still, especially old ones, but they don't improve and it becomes pointless. I had an A30 with a sick motor, I drove it all the time (feeding it oil) until one day on the motorway, it's top speed suddenly became 20mph. Got it to the wreckers though....slowly, noisily and ejecting huge clouds. We have had many dead and dying motors.... The ute is OKish if you drive gently up to the shop, without much on the back. It does use oil, it drips as well as burns. Going down the motorway? hmm... Load on the back? Hmmm. He's not going to risk it. He could change the motor, we know where there is one, well was, probably still there. But the cost of the motor, cost of freight, then having it put in...nah.... He can't DIY it now either, no gear, too old to do motors. It's either change the motor or give up. He's chosen to give up. Anyway, the advice (and humour) was appreciated, he read it all. |

My poor wee car is getting rather full. Also need to go down to scrap metal guy while we still have the means to transport the stuff... Also searching Trademe station wagons listings.... And have a PC repair to do. Well sort of a repair, a hardware transplant really... |

| 1358065 | 2013-10-30 08:47:00 | Is this on the original motor? Most vehicles don't seem to get past the 300,000 Km mark unless they have been really well looked after, they die from a combination of rust and neglect. Probably too expensive to do any thing with the motor, possibly get a good second hand one,(if possible) if the rest is in reasonable condition. In the end a newer vehicle will be cheaper to run, given that you have had it checked out. | PPp (9511) | ||
