1358364 2013-10-31 06:59:00 I am getting a bit sick of pollsters saying the Labour Greens coalition could form a government as a result of the latest polls.

Surely if there was an election tomorrow National as the largest party votes would get first chance to form a government.
Not a Labour Green coalition. They are 2 separate parties!

Am I right or wrong?

From a technical point of view (never mind your party politics)

My dear Digby, the answer to your question can be found in a “Documentary” the BBC did back in the 1980’s. It covered the Westminster System of governance and was generously acclaimed by the British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.

Google Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister. ;)

Yes.
And we have MMP.

So now it's all about who can get seats, alone, combined, whatever mixture they want....

National does it too, they have their buddies to help if need be...

Doesn't mean they all like each other.

Just the way it is now...anyway keeps them slightly more awake than when they had FPP

1358367 2013-10-31 09:01:00 I still say National as the biggest party (on present polling ) gets first chance.

You have answered your own question here.

Stupid electoral system anyway, it should go back to first past the post, yeah right.

Lurking.

1358368 2013-10-31 10:56:00 Yeah it sounds like National are talking up the Conservatives a little, they'll likely side with them, and the Maori party. I'm thinking even if they don't break the 5% mark, it appears that National won't stand a super strong candidate in that area (Which is currently relatively blue AFAIK), so if National keep talking it up, it wouldn't surprise me if they got in through that method... It's kind of clever of National though coz they'll have a few extra seats that way.
I doubt that JK will do the "Lets go have a cuppa" like last time with Act, lets be honest Colin could probably buy John the tea, but I sincerely doubt Act will survive this next election.

From what I've seen the Maori party, if they were the "kingpin" vote, would go Red, but they're clever enough to know that getting into parliament with National is better than not at all, so they'd likely stick with what they've been doing.

I haven't seen how National feel about NZ First lately, are they still keeping that option open? Is Winston still relying on getting 5% to get in?

Then there's Mana, they'll get in as a minor party coz Hone will win his seat, thankfully though National have fully ruled out any talks with him, last time I heard?

1358369 2013-10-31 19:54:00 Most news agencies in NZ are left-leaning, so they love to push their interpretation of what are effectively made-up numbers on an unsuspecting public because it suits their agenda
+1 That is why the Len Brown scandel(with plenty of evidence) was twisted by most news reports as being an evil right wing plot (with no evidence whatever).

1358370 2013-11-06 20:30:00 this is irrelevant. puppet on the left and puppet on the right are played by the same puppeteer.

you have the illusion of choice and nothing more.

theatre for the masses is what you get to enjoy. no real change will ever occur. just nigglers prodding controversial issues.

divide and conquer the headless chicken-sheep herd they have
