| 1358166 | 2013-10-31 05:43:00 | 3 midrange android phones in house. Htc, Motorola and Samsung. None have ever seen an official update from there makers. With many Android handsets, especially those not in the "top-end" of the range, the manufacturer seems to have a tendency to see their offerings as a 'tempter' to try to get the buyer of the low-mid range devices to trade up with their next purchase. However I suspect that this attitude probably backfires on them a bit - the user experience on a lower end device is crappier and the manufacturer might be seen as a 'slack arse' for not supporting what can be an expensive purchase (relatively-speaking) for said user. However, if you buy a Nexus device, these tend to be supported better (albeit probably not as well/long as iPhone - but then Nexus devices cost half as much and do an arguably better job than their Apple equivalents). And the quality of vanilla Android releases tends to be of a higher standard (fewer defects), and what few defects there might be are fixed pretty quick - unlike my experience with a certain fruity brand... |
