1356735 2013-10-22 07:46:00 I have tivo, never used the online capacity of it, but it does give me unmetered internet. Unlimited internet gives me access to the best online entertainment out there. Torrents Thats good if a person is a Telecom Customer, but it appears for every one else its a no go.

Personally hav'nt seen a movie yet that I cant wait till it comes out here in NZ.

Too be fair Wainui, until telecom changed the policy, I was paying for there bigtime plan until it was cancelled, then went to a 160GB on to a 500GB plan, so have no problem paying for the correct plan to suit my usage.

Fair enough Plod :) To be honest we dont watch a lot of movies, got "access" to hundreds of them, but really cant be bothered. ;)

We had a call from Sky not so long ago trying to sell us the movie channels, I asked one simple question: look back at our usage, how many times have we actually rented a movie ( which we can) on Sky over the whole time we have had it ( roughly 8-10 yrs). That ended that conversation real quick :D

1356738 2013-10-22 08:08:00 Sky was the very reason we use a lot of Internet, well the fact we don't have it. I gave the children a choice between unlimited internet or sky. The wife missed it for a while but not now plod (107)
1356739 2013-10-22 09:49:00 Quickflix quality is horrible, to say the least. Selection is abysmal.
Netflix / Hulu not legit in NZ, using VPNs etc even though you're paying is still not legit, though it eases the conscious of most.
TiVo is horrendous...
Igloo? Hell no.

We have iTunes and that's it really. Google Play Movies isn't even available here :(

1356740 2013-10-22 17:15:00 You missed the MS video app in windows 8, it's actually the best one I've personally tried so far that's available in nz. OK selection and hd quality.
Haven't tried them all though, just quickflix, Hulu, TiVo, and whatever the MS app is called.

1356741 2013-10-22 18:04:00 How can people expect media to get popular without people being able to share it freely? Some companies clearly don't understand this.
.

Well before the internet was invented, before tape recorders even, media was pretty popular...

There are a lot of excuses for piracy, with the speed things get out - even in way behind NZ, you'd think people would appreciate that....but there always will be justifications for stealing rather than buying.

1356742 2013-10-22 18:10:00 Thought this was a interesting way of backing up Gabe N's argument that piracy is almost always a distribution problem. There seems to be a pattern on unavailability... (http://piracydata.org/)

I guess you could claim that most of those movies aren't out on DVD/Digital release as they are still in cinemas (ie the standard model for when and where a movie is available). Maybe it's time for a change in how and when movies are released?

Sad to say ISOhunt has just closed, is there a better site?

1356743 2013-10-22 19:54:00 If it wasnt for illegal downloads of TV programs, do you think that the TV Channels would be hurrying to get some of the programs on air ASAP
eg: Top gear , that used to be 6-12 late when shown in NZ, it lost its relevancy. Recently Prime have been alot quicker getting it on air
Some of the Ch4 adult cartoons are now promoted as "aired the same week as the US" . Obviously a ploy to get veiwers to watch them on TV rather than via download
