1356839 2013-10-22 22:07:00 Hello All

Apparently Telecom/Xtra are removing their open SMTP Server.

smtp.xtra.co.nz Port 25 is going offline at the end of the month
Therefore you would have to use send.xtra.co.nz Port 465 SSL Authenticated - Obviously you have to be a Telecom Client to use this server

Is there any good SMTP servers that don't require authentication...

Thanks

I doubt you'll find true open smtp servers. They would be overloaded by spammers sending out junk.

1/2 of xtra email users probhably still use smtp.xtra.. This is going to cause a big headaches if true.
Couldnt (easily) find any mention of this on Telecoms webpage (that means nothing though) . I bit of warning from telecom would have been nice
I saw that they no longer give smtp.xtra.co.nz in their help/setup webpage (its send.xtra.. )

1356841 2013-10-22 23:08:00 Where did you see this mentioned? They need to fix the proper server before turning off smtp.xtra.co.nz. wratterus (105)
1356842 2013-10-22 23:31:00 send accepts standard SMTP on port 25, so I presume it's more a case of the old ones turning off, the DNS record will probably be updated to point smtp to send, and no big deal. inphinity (7274)
1356843 2013-10-28 00:42:00 I use my own PC based smtp server 'Postcast Server' (http://www.postcastserver.com/) when travelling, and can't find a local server and my ISP won't accept "relaying". wuppo (41)

I'd say you would have a very low percentage of your mail actually get through, even if outbound port 25 is open on whatever network you are connected to, with a 'dynamic' ip and a 'direct from client' smtp connection, any receiving server is going to treat you like a leper.

Indeed providers like Hotmail often reject the connection, but in general it works for me for the servers I need to contact. Postcast lets you know the delivery result (or not). It's not a perfect solution, but its another option. At worst I resort to webmail!

1356846 2013-11-01 03:55:00 I got this information from our Gen-I account Manager...

Seeing as Telecom blocks port 25 for any other smtp server - Authentication is the only way to go
