290008 2004-11-11 05:31:00 Ahhh..uummm! Hi guys :D :D you want to see something funny (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). Good timing eh! I hope to have a new DVD R/W by the weekend though, so hopefully there will be no holdup.

Prescott, what would you prefer, CD or DVD?

Murray P

PS. If you would like to put your oar in on the best drive for my requirements, please feel free.

No offence and all, but I just thought I should clarify something about the Linux native filesystem - they don't use NTFS or FAT32 if that is what you thought. :D

Linux has its own filesystem that is not recognised by Windows, most common is ext3 and reiserFS but there is a variety to choose from.

290010 2004-11-11 06:24:00 Yoper has support for Reiser4 which I would HIGHLY recommend!

ReiserFS got a bad name for namesys because they released it too soon - But reiser4 has gone through one hell of a stringent test and its fast, really fast!

Yoper doesnt care if you have NTFS or FAT32 so dont sweat it - You can do repartitioning during installation.

During the Yoper Install it'll give you a GUI partition manager (qtparted) which looks similar to Partition Magic. Here's what you'll want to do:

Resize your Windows space. Be generous and give linux 5gb+
Make a primary Ext3 partition. This should be the better part of the space you'll use for linux
Make another partition, but make it Linux SWAP. This should be 256MB and the rest can be your Ext3 partition.
Save the changes and quit

It'll ask you first for a /home partition, tell it CANCEL! (Read it carefully or you have to restart install).
Then it'll ask you for a / partition, select the main ext3 partition.
It'll then ask you what you want to format you / partition as. This is where you format it as Reiser4 - Namesys.com's High-Performance Filesystem!

Enjoy!

290013 2004-11-11 09:55:00 It really depends on how much space is currently taken up by Windows.

The more you can give, the better, to allow you room to grow and use it.... But you dont wanna cut Windows short at the same time :p

Ive been considering doing a "Getting started with Yoper" series for a while.....
