Use it on the internet and be, buy M/S standards, virus, worm, and trojan free.

That 's a pretty big start.

289980 2004-11-10 07:18:00 just had a little look at yoper, might try this, advice/suggestions?, but there is a downside, a massive 692.97MB this is crazy, the highest ive ever download was a 200mb demo, anyone already downloaded this and have a spare cdr (dirt cheap anyway) and willing to send me this?? because this could take me weeks to download,

Don't go near these if you have dial-up unless you have a D/L manager and a looooooong time when you don't need the phone line. Most of the major distros use more than one CD, so you're in for a download of at least 1.5 - 2.0 GIGABYTES for a full distro. Just go to a mate's place with broadband for this.

PS. Don't forget to reimburse mate for the excess usage charged by Telecom....

How many new S/w packages can you now not use?

Starting with IE6, Adobae acrobat 6 Ect Ect.

How much new equippment can you not use?

Eventually you will have to upgrade The extension of lonhorn release dates gives you a reprieve.

You hiatus will end, then you will be like all the other M/S victims.

289985 2004-11-10 07:30:00 The lower the spec'ed machine the more likely you'll need a distro with , lets say, user input required at the coal face .

2GB is a tad light, but will work, a bit more ram would help too, particularly for Yoper and some of the other modern/newer distro's . Remember, most distro's are fairly easy to customise as to what is installed, they usually come pre-loaded with office type productivity app's, and all sorts of other bit's and pieces, if it's too big to beigin with to fit comfotably on the drive, performace will suffer .

Yoper from that respect comes on a single CD with fairly basic but useful software included, then you build it up from there with Yoper approved/optimised app's like Open Office . I have yoper on a 4 . 6GB partition with OO and a heap of other add-ins and still have 2 . 6GB free, but my Home (user data nad some installation/app files) folder is on a separate partition 11 . 7 free of 12GB (fairly recent install . So I'm using 2 . 9GB + a 1GB swap (which hardly gets used) . I could easily use the rest of the 4 . 6GB /root space by adding more apps and functionality, but there is no need at the mo .
