290399 2004-11-11 04:16:00 " Recommended sdram cas latency time is "2" "

I upgraded from 2x 256 and 2x 512 to 4x 512 sdram pc133

Kingston KVR133X64C3/512
512MB PC133 DIMM CL3
Standard 64M X 64 Non-ECC 133MHz 168-pin Unbuffered DIMM (SDRAM, 3.3V, CL3, Gold)
All four 512s now are the exact same chip
What does that boot message mean? and whats cas latency time?

290400 2004-11-11 04:21:00 It's "Column Address Strobe" ... one of the critical timing signals which control the transfer of information in and out of memory.

The fact that the BIOS is giving you a message indicates that the saved setting in the BIOS differs from the suggested one.

You can probably find it in the "Advanced" section of the BIOS setup.

290401 2004-11-11 04:24:00 its currently set to 3.... wouldnt this be better? and plus my last set up didnt have this message Rpg_pro (5689)
290402 2004-11-11 04:34:00 it says it wants to run "2".

Let it run on "2' see how it goes you can always change it again.

Why is there 100mhz and 133mhz in the SPD table?

290404 2004-11-11 04:44:00 ahh i think i know what that table means.... so if i set it to "2" wouldnt the ram run at 100mhz? Rpg_pro (5689)
290405 2004-11-11 04:45:00 Since it's a "latency", it's actually a delay. 2 will make the memory run faster than 3.

3 will give more time for things to happen, but the memory is supposed to be that fast. :D

290406 2004-11-11 04:48:00 Hmm what ill do is run the bench mark for Final Fantasy XI and post the scores for both settings, only good test so far i can think of to test the different settings. gimi 10 mins :) Rpg_pro (5689)
290407 2004-11-11 05:20:00 Test results, From Final Fantasy XI benchmark 2
Higher score = Better Low/High = GFX getting

CAS Latency 3
Low - 1828
High - 1687

CAS Latency 2
Low - 1853
High - 1688

So it shows "2" is slightly better, but why? isn't it running at 100mhz fsb?
But the amount it bet it by wouldn't make much difference. Is there any other tests i can do?

290408 2004-11-11 05:25:00 The 2 and 3 are small pieces of time ;-). The difference might even be 1 nanosecond. That's the time it takes for light to travel 1 foot.

I suspect your memory is running at 133 MHz. The BIOS would give you a message at boot time if it wasn't :D
