However, a Symantec spokesperson told ZDNet Australia that the flaw was not a threat to users because it only affected systems that are running Windows with administrator rights."

Umm.... most users run Windows XP with admistrator rights...

Details here (news.zdnet.co.uk).

The same people (reviews.zdnet.co.uk) are also very impressed with and recommend Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 12 (2005).

"This year's version of Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security, our Editors' Choice for 2005, includes an antivirus scanner, a firewall, anti-spam and anti-spyware capabilities, plus parental controls -- and that's only the start.

Here's the clincher: PC-cillin costs the same as Norton's or McAfee's antivirus software. It also makes barely a dent in your system resources; when it's scanning, you'll hardly notice PC-cillin."

Interesting. Doesn't mention anything about how good it is at catching the viruses compared to the others though. :-)

Stupid huh!

Kinda makes me glad I dont use AV software....

Ive heard that Trend Micro are pretty good in comparison to Symantec & Grisoft, but I dont have any hard evidence reviews to back that up ATM.

Chill.

290717 2004-11-11 19:21:00 Well you could always try ClamAV or Avast!

Personally though, all I use is a firewall - I've got ClamAV and Spybot installed, but neither run in the background.

290718 2004-11-11 20:19:00 VB (www.virusbtn.com) are a reference site for AV tests, so you can get a good idea here whether it works with what operating system.

Also iCSA labs have their list here (www.icsalabs.com)

290719 2004-11-11 22:48:00 Well I've been useing NAV for the past ten years and do not have a single complaint with it.
I am currently useing NAV 2005 and quite honestly I love it. No worries about keeping it upgraded, it's all automatic and I have not had a single virus get past it.
Others might be as good, I don't know bur nothing could be better.(except the price).

290720 2004-11-11 23:52:00 Good for you, Jack. If it works for you and you are happy with it then stick with it.

Since you are using NAV 2005 I do hope you have taken note of what the article I linked to says.

Only issue with ClamWin for newbies is that it doesn't do on-access scanning, it's only scan on demand.

On-access (and a POP3 proxy) will be added in a new release due around February from memory.
