290701 2004-11-11 09:31:00 Okay I know that this is probably a long shot, bit is there any (and I'm talking any) way to get Office 2003 running on ME? My sister has gone and bought the full version for her flailing k6-2 500, with a sparkling fresh copy of windows ME installed... and wants me to install office for her. God help me. I suspect I'm going to have to break the bad news to her... but before I do that I think I'd better get a second opinion.

Does anyone here know of some sort of workaround/patch/fix to get it working? Hopefully there is, but as I said I'm not about to get my hopes up.

290702 2004-11-11 09:37:00 The box says Office 2003 requires W2000 or XP. I don't know of any way to install on an earlier version, sorry. rodb (1561)
290703 2004-11-11 10:20:00 bring it back, explain your situation and if the store is kind enough they might accept to take it back, or sell it on trademe and get an office that will work on your system Prescott (11)

:^O

this post really made me laugh - I can just picture it - plus you knew the answer before you posted but felt you had to go through the motions for your sister.

We've all been there, done that.

I agree - try the 2K version if you can - it runs just fine on the old P2's too

Good luck

290706 2004-11-11 12:56:00 Yeah, I might have to tell her to take it back. Either that or get a copy of Windows XP (which, of course, costs money) - it should run, albeit like a lame duck with its wings stapled to the floor. Maybe a RAM upgrade would do it though?

Actually considering the frustration of a slow computer (been there, done that - I spent a good five years of my life on a pentium 166), Office 2000 could possibly be the best option. I think I'll have a look on Trademe now while I'm at it.

290707 2004-11-11 20:25:00 if you get xp for you me machine i doubt that it will work due to that pc being underpowerd, go for office 2000
enjoy

290708 2004-11-11 20:25:00 Advise against XP, too resource hungry for your K6 II . Take the option recommended in the previous posts....Windows 2000. (Thats providing you change OS) Pheonix (280)

Mate don't worry about that - I have a PII 266MHz running Windows XP just fine. You may need more RAM, that one only had 196MB. On the other hand I ran Windows Server 2003 Datacenter on me Pentium 200MHz, and that only had 160MB of RAM - but it was sweet.

290710 2004-11-13 22:19:00 I have installed XPPro on a K6-2 500 and it is very stable with no problems, and runs faster than ME which was in it before.
Boosted the RAM from 128 to 256 megs and installed a decent video card (Nvidia with 32megs)
