| 290967 | 2004-11-12 09:19:00 | I just finished building my new computer and I'm trying to boot from the Windows XP CD. There's just one problem. The computer doesn't see the CD-ROM drive. It has three jumper settings, Master, Slave, and "CS." Currently it is on Master, as it is the only IDE device in the system (the two hard drives are SATA.) The drive is an LG DVD/CD-RW and the motherboard is an MSI K8N Neo Platinum. I'm wondering whether I have actually plugged it in correctly, because the IDE cable comes out of the motherboard fairly easily, it's not like it is clicking in or anything. I pretty much place it on the connector and it goes on it. I can't get it down any further. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. |

If the cables came with the board all should be well, proceed with caution if you bend the pins it will be dead and abuse is not covered buy warranty. Try also carefully putting the cable in IDE2 and try running up on that. Emphasis on care. D. |

| 290969 | 2004-11-12 09:34:00 | The cables came with the board, I've tried it on both channels, and I get this error: PXE-E61 Media test failure - check cable PXE-M0F Exiting NVidia boot agent |

You will also need to have a floppy installed to be able to load the SATA drivers for Windows . From memory I have my CD set as master on the secondary IDE on a similar board and this worked fine . | 290971 | 2004-11-12 09:54:00 | PXE is a lan boot type. check your boot sequence, and if any type of lan boot is on, make it off. pxe is generally 1st or last, so also try a floppy boot and see what happens. any type off floppy boot will do at this point. D. |

| 290972 | 2004-11-12 19:47:00 | Yeah, I got rid of the PXE errors, but it is not detecting the CD-ROM drive at all. If you have the IDE cable in properly, how much force is required to unplug it? And how much force should be required to plug it in properly? | Wilky (776) | ||
| 290973 | 2004-11-12 20:03:00 | Put the CD as Master (the jumper on the back of it) . Put it on IDE 1 (Primary IDE) . The IDE cable can only go one way . Has the CD IDE cable got a blue plug on the mobo end?? Since its the only IDE device in the system . Also, go into the BIOS and look for primary IDE master, go into its screen, and put it on AUTO . Then save the BIOS settings . And if you're trying to put windows on it now, change the bootdisk in BIOS to CD . Once its finished installing Windows, change the bootdisk back to the hdd . The cd that that mobo came with SHOULD have SATA drivers on it . You will have to find out which folder, these drivers are in and extract them to floppy, if you want to use RAID . What does that mobo support?? SATA 0, 1 or other?? Will you be using RAID 0,1 / other, or not?? |

| 290974 | 2004-11-12 20:05:00 | And also, press the eject button on the CD. Does it open?? If not connect a 4 pin power connection to it. To give it power. That might be another reason, why nothing picks it up. |

| 290975 | 2004-11-12 20:09:00 | Oops and one more thing with SATA, the connection for the SATA (if its onboard), doesnt supply power. ONLY data. So, you need 2 sata power adaptors, and connect them to 2 spare 4 molex power connections from somewhere. | Spacemannz (808) | ||
| 290976 | 2004-11-12 20:19:00 | The hard drives are powered, and so is the CD-ROM. I'm thinking it may not be plugged in fully to the mobo, but I don't want to force the cable out of fear that I might damage the motherboard. How much force should it take to plug in an IDE cable to a motherboard? | Wilky (776) | ||
