291339 2004-11-14 02:00:00 It is a Bad Idea to "dumbly" charge a lithium battery. They don't like it.

A lithium battery can "vent with flame" if maltreated. That's why they have clever control/charging circuits.

291341 2004-11-14 02:39:00 George - bear in mind that even though you may have 3.8v across the terminals, this is EMF not actual voltage. Even flat batteries will read a full-sounding voltage, however once you connect it across a resistor (or something which chews up current), you will notice that the voltage dramatically reduces due to the internal resistance in the battery.

Carefully (using aligator clips or something) connect an old 3V light bulb across the +ve and -ve terminals, then take another reading across the + and - with a multimeter. Simply connect the muiltimeter in parallel.

291342 2004-11-14 09:56:00 That voltage is with the phone turned on. I'll find a multimeter again now, and see what voltage it is when turned off.
