| 291190 | 2004-11-15 03:59:00 | Try a Scandisk (or is that called Chkdisk again? ;-)) That should give you a report of "missing" or bad areas unavailable. But I suspect this is a "reporting" problem not a missing space problem. Putting the mouse over the C drive tells you 32Gb with 5GB free. I woudl believe that. ;-) Going into the C:\ directory and selecting all the directories is probably just giving you the total size of the selected directories. Many of those contain other directories, which are probably not being added. I'm sure it's sopmething like that. For 21 MB to go "missing" would normally have a few side effects, like frequenty crashes ... |

| 291193 | 2004-11-16 00:28:00 | I'm pretty certain that it's just a matter of using the wrong method of finding the space used . :D On an old W98 laptop: Selecting the C: drive in My Computer displays: Capacity 692MB, Used 681 MB, Free 11 . 6 MB . Right clicking, Properties gives the same . Double clicking, then Edit/Select Al, shows: "Total File Size 2,417,753 bytes" . l So either I've got 687 MB or so missing, or double clicking and selecting all doesn't give the right answer . I think I know which I believe . ;-) |

| 291194 | 2004-11-16 00:51:00 | Mine shows: 19,988,837,306 bytes used if I select all (18.6GB) 20,017,709,056 bytes used if I right click C: (18.6GB) That's odd isn't it.... That's with hidden/protected files shown and the recycle bin empty. Wonder where that 28871750 bytes (27.5MB) went? I also checked the 'size on disk', and strangely it was lower than the actual size taken... Oh well... |
