291497 2004-11-14 01:33:00 Hi, i have abit of a problem here with my Acer Extensa 610CD laptop.
The screen seems to be going weird sometimes. Sometimes when i turn it on, all along the bottom half of screen has black lines runing up and down right across screen. It seems to happen when I put a different hard drive in. It does go away most of time. Perhaps this particular laptop only likes the brand of hard disk that it originally came with?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated. :D

291498 2004-11-14 03:53:00 Hi vekon

When you say you swap the hard drives in the laptop, do both have OS's on them? The original drive (with whatever OS) will have the motherboard and graphic drivers on them. If you are using a 2nd hard drive with another installed OS on it, it may not have the correct drivers installed.

If the 2nd hard drive which seems to induce this problem is only a storage drive, then ignore this comment. :)

291499 2004-11-14 04:32:00 Your problem sounds to me like a physical one. When you change the hard drives and reconnet the monitor cable, there's a possibility that it's not fully connected, which would cause some pixels not to light up... bRaZZiN (2228)
291500 2004-11-14 05:42:00 Hi, thanx for the info. As to the OS's, both HDD's have win 98se and have both been configured and setup the same. I use to Extensa 610CD laptop with exact same specifications. I use one laptop for storing images and backup files. The original HD in the one with "black lines" fault was an IBM with 1.4GB but that went bung so now I use a Seagate drive which is 1.4GB also. The black lines appear as soon as I turn it on and go into the BIOS setup. Its running fine now but that's only temporary, as it seems to start doing it again after I havn't used it for a few days.

Thanx again guys for your help. ;)
