291259 2004-11-13 10:11:00 ?:| Very interested to hear your views on Mac vs PC......iMac, eMac etc. I am lead to believe that the games and software available these days is more available for PC - is this the case???

Anyone out there with an iMac G4 / G5 or eMac G4 / G5 happy to give feedback on these machine's performance? They look different - but which is the preferred one iMac or eMac?

Look forward to your views :-)

291260 2004-11-13 10:22:00 It's sad, but you won't have nearly as much choice of hardware of software with a Mac. In many ways the Os is superior to Windows and the hardware is generally more stable - simply because Apple are able to control the market. Unless you have a specific need for a Mac you'd be best to go for a PC. I've owned a couple of Macs but gave in to PCs becuse of the coice aspect. POTUS (5276)

anyway alot of computer users have pc's so there is of course more software based for pc's, i personaly dont like macs they are weird IMO.
pc's can look different, its called case modding or a new case :p :D

291262 2004-11-13 10:31:00 Both platforms have matured to the point were they are stable, have excellent interfaces and can serve up more grunt then most people can get close to using.

Apples are more expensive but those that use them tend to swear by them, something has to install such platform loyalty. The software choice is far more limited, but at a mature level of development.

The main issue that i come across is suport,The situation i would presume is different in major centres but the mac users i know are often left high and dry.....

I wouldn't mind one.

291264 2004-11-13 12:10:00 There is the Economic quality choice, PC runnig linux.

Heh. i suppose its natural for humans to be scared of something that they know nothing about.

that depends. walk into a design studio and your an ass if you think you will find happy designers buzzing away on a windows machine.

yea?. and what on earth makes you think you can't case mod a MAC ?

try and find a more advanced mod than that on any type of PC.
anyway, your an even more of an ass if you wanna go chopping up a nice G5 machine so you can put some pretty lights in it.

He/She who carves up a G5 to "Make it pretty" probably has too much money, and too much free time.

Software issues aside, a G5 must be respected as the quality piece of computer engineering it is.

291267 2004-11-13 19:25:00 I own a PC with XP & a G4 eMac with OSX 3.6 Panther.
Had I waited for a while I would have bought the new G5 iMac. :-)
The Mac was bought because I was sick to death of Viruses, Adware & Spyware.
What with constantly updating & running the virus checker and critical patches to download on dail-up the XP is a pain.

The Mac with Panther is user friendly, no real viruses, adware or spyware. There's plenty of software included and heaps more available both free & shareware ~ it just plain works and is pretty to look at too. Yes a one button, optical mouse is supplied but everyone has a favourlte rodent & most work with Mac.
I have owned Windows from 95 to XP. No more, It will be Mac for me from now on.
If you are into gameing keep your Windows box, for Graphics, Music and Work try a Mac.
Tis a big world, room for all :-)
