291197 2004-11-13 05:58:00 Ive heard 7zip does too....

End of the day, it depends on what you're compressing. Video? Documents? Images? Applications? Device drivers? All are different.....

Try a few, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and 7z would be what I recommend.

Why do you wanna compress it for backups? Why not backup uncompressed??

291198 2004-11-13 06:02:00 As chilli mentioned,Back it up uncompressed.

To many times people find they can't open their compressed backup, and then all is lost.

291200 2004-11-13 06:42:00 i would use recovery optoins as well in case you get a damaged cd. it makes the files a bit bigger but increases the odds of you getting data back if anything gets damaged. tweak'e (174)
291201 2004-11-13 06:54:00 Make sure that you test ALL of your backups. A backup is not a backup if you can't access your files. ;-) Susan B (19)
291202 2004-11-13 07:00:00 I agree with previous comments, hence the question.

Why not just goto QMB or the likes and get some bulk CD-R's? They're under $20 for a 50-pack!

291203 2004-11-13 07:09:00 no fear, no fear mr silence, i brought a pack of 20 cdrs and ill just do it that way,
