292206 2004-11-15 03:59:00 Well I've just spent the last 30 minutes playing Halo 2.

1st impression is really good, it looks awesome and the attention to detail is out of this world.

I have only one gripe... the control setup is really hard (for a newbie that is) to get used to. I know playing more is going to make me more adept but somehow FPS just doesn't seem right on a console.

Any chance I can hook my mouse and keyboard up to my X-box (lol)

If you have Halo, how long did it take you to master the controls.

cheers

292207 2004-11-15 04:12:00 I had the same problem when playing multiplayer on a mate's XBox - using two analogue sticks was tricky - I think if you reversed the y-axis on the "look stick" it would possibly be a bit easier (if possible)...

But yeah I agree - I wanted my optical and keyboard - got my ass kicked :D

Damn consoles... another mate who had Medal of Honor on PS2 - he thought it was great but I had to bite my lip - shocking frame rate and analogue sticks just dont cut it - so cumbersome...

292208 2004-11-15 04:17:00 I guess I initially felt the same way... I mean, it took me about a good half hour before I felt confident with the controls... now it's no problem and the controls are all good.

I wanted a mouse and keyboard to begin with, but I can imagine the dual weapon firing controls will be havoc on a PC system without the left and right triggers.

I think the actual targetting and shooting with the analogue sticks are hard, but mastering all the functions on a PC / keyboard setup will get difficult too.

292209 2004-11-15 04:19:00 Finished the game yet Lo?

And if so do you have a final verdict on it?

Nah, I am nowhere near finished... Have played as the "Arbiter" from the Covenant though, and just got through that. Pretty cool new weapons to be used, and i can imagine the resolution and detail on the PC version will be spectacular.

Verdict so far - pretty awesome as an FPS so far... storyline-wise, I'm waiting for a couple of big twists as per the norm these days, but it's pretty standard so far.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for these kinds of games?!

292211 2004-11-15 06:05:00 You are soooo right FPS should not be released on consoles, they should stick to what they do best, Racing Sims and platformers.

What ever happened to the classic side scrollers of yester year? If they released the likes of Metal Slug and Sonic on the Xbox/PS2 in a classic side scrolling enviroment with updated graphics i would seriously consider a console.

Until that day comes i can get my gaming fix on my PC quite happily. Doesnt the xbox just use USB? A soldering iron and a lil Gentle persuasion and i reckon you could get a mouse and keyboard to work on the xbox. Dont know how the software would handle it but im sure theres some clever cookie out there whos figured it out.

292212 2004-11-15 06:07:00 Metal slug is availble for the Xbox and ps2...And consoles do a poor job of racing sims, they do fine at pure arcade racers though.... metla (154)

It's called left and right mouse buttons! Most games like UT2K4 have alternale weapon firing that use left and right mouse buttons. Battlefield Vietnam is easy enough to drive a tank around and fire the big gun at the same time as the machine gun.

I don't know why, but they (Microsoft is it?) totaly bodged up the conversion of halo to PC. As I said in another thread, It runs terribly on a Radeon 9800 pro (R360 core). Anyway the graphics aren't that amazing and the physics totaly suck comapred to ut2004. there is no dubble jump or dodge.

Why does anyone bother to play an FPS on a console?

Just to make it even easier, left mouse button controls right handed weapon, right mouse button controls left handed weapon .

Have you even played Halo 2 yet to understand just how intense using dual weapons is?!
