291743 2004-11-14 08:39:00 I have just set up a new PC running XP Pro. I run a DOS program called Xtalk Communicator to link with a Unix server, but this program runs slow. ie there is a delay between a key push and the screen reacting. I run this program on about 8 other similar PC's with XP Pro and do not have this problem. I have checked hardware settings, baud rate, flow control etc and all are set right.
Does anyone have any suggestions??

291745 2004-11-25 08:49:00 Its running through a Comms (serial) port so I fitted a new one but just the same!!!!!! Muzz (1286)
291746 2004-11-25 13:25:00 Hey Muzz,

XP usings cmd.exe even though command.exe still exists, it is really just for backwards compatibity, if possible run it through cmd.exe and it should be faster.

291747 2004-11-26 04:45:00 Does the MS-supplied HyperTerm behave the same? In XP programmes can't directly access I/O ports (like the serial ones).... but why one box should be slow when others aren't is a progblem.;-) Could you have the wrong handshaking? (None, hardware, software). Graham L (2)
291748 2004-11-27 10:25:00 You could have a "greeby" vetting every move.
Try running Spybot & Adaware SE.

291749 2004-11-29 03:26:00 No Hyperterminal runs fine but some of the key commands don't suit the program we are running. Thanks for your comments Muzz (1286)
291750 2004-11-29 03:28:00 Also...have tried different handshaking etc but to no avail! Am going to install Win2k and see if that works as have quite a number of other PC's running that without a prob. will do a clean install so will sort out any gremlins! Muzz (1286)
291751 2004-11-29 03:33:00 Could you have a modem on the "same" COM port pair (1-3 with INT 4, 2-4 with INT 3)?

The (DOS) terminal emulator I use is called conex. It's free , and works very well. It should still be available in any Simtel archive.
