Free speech does not exist on this forum. At least one mod has already signalled his intention to edit posts that he doesn't like/agree with, regardless of whether or not they break any rules of this forum. He states that one reason for revealing his identity was to do with credibility. But those actions, and his own breaking of the forum rules, have already destroyed any credibility he may had had.

When sheep become shepherd all sorts can happen.

292387 2004-11-16 23:12:00 Stop complaining Potus. If you hate the way this place is run don't annoy us with your pointless, complaining posts. I am perfectly happy with how Chill and now Jen are moderating the forum.

A post does not need to be in direct violation of a rule to be considered unruly. Discretion on the moderaters' side needs to be taken as well. Chill obviously used his and decided that something was in the post that was unwanted. As it was edited I do not know what this was, but Chill is a much respected, long-time member of the forum and I, among a lot of other people, trust his judgement.

As Bruce has said before, this is not a free speech forum, but one run with a not-very-restrictive set of rules. Other people manage not to break them (or come close enough to annoy people).

292388 2004-11-16 23:39:00 I'll give you a reason why it was edited out.

It was hijacking the thread. And that is almost as bad as SHOUTING.

George12 - You're right, I used my noodle and figured it best to remove certain aspects of the thread

Potus - You want freedom of speech? Goto the US and join the special forces - Then see how much freedom of speech you have.
We reserve the right to Moderate (Funny that seeing as Im a "Moderator") any post we deem unfit for the general public.
End of story

A case of "don't do as I do, do as I say". Very democratic, Adolf! The problem with deleting someones text is the people can read all sorts of things into it. Especially when you the say something like it was "unfit for the general public" - makes it look really bad, doesn't it. By takng away what I said you are indicating something far worse that actually existed! In fact it was just criticism that you couldn't handle and was within the rules of this forum. But swearing is OK if it comes from a moderator?

What the heck has that got to do with anything? The fact of the matter is that I am a private citizen living in New Zealand which gives me certain unalienable rights. Even if you ban me, you won't stop me talking. Perhaps you've been playing to many games?

292393 2004-11-17 02:00:00 POTUS:

If you really believe you have "unalienable" rights as a private citizen in NZ, you are in for many disappointments . ;-)

As for the imagined right of free speech here, it's like the old "freedom of the press": "You buy a press, you have the freedom of it" .

This is IDG's "press" . IDG have the right to limit what people say here . The limits are reasonable . If people say things outside those limits, IDG and their agents have the absolute right to delete or edit those things or otherwise express their displeasure .

. . . "Even if you ban me, you won't stop me talking" . . . ? :O Sorry, they can stop you talking here .

Does that include red herrings Murray? We still have the odd Poster persisting in dragging a herring across our paths . . . Perhaps it is troll bait? ;-)
