2004-11-22 07:37:00 | 2 more to go (lvl2 classics and lvl 1 spanish), had eco today, damn that was one easy arse test, finished everything in an hour and 15 minutes. But on a side note i think its silly that without any explanation is, they expect us to know the economic ins and outs of utu, without even telling us what it means....., (found out afterwards its a form of reciprocation.....)

2004-11-23 01:17:00 | phew, so glad thts over!! Thought it (calculus) was prety hard, i wasn't really prepared for it - well, not how i should have been (but i mean is anyone ever prepared for an exam??) The intergration paper scared teh crap out of me, i had skimmed thro - and there was only like 3 Q's i new i could do! But ended up figuring some others out, hope its enof for A! As for the others, i reckon Differnation was OK (ccept for E Question) Complex was the same, and Conics i thought was good, confidently done all Q's, cept the last one (couldn't understand the Q0 How did everyone else do? how was the lvl 2 math paper?

2004-11-23 02:27:00 | Yea, i thought Level 3 Calculus was hard too. At least you didn't have an earthquake come through the middle of yours! I thought it was just me - the room moving etc. but then we all realised it was an earthquake lol! I reckon i did ok, some questions were a bit different eg the related rates of change but it was all right. All done, so im happy! Stiven

2004-11-23 03:02:00 | I'm usually pretty crap at Calc, because I don't really like it and my teacher doesn't even teach us, whereas my sister is excellent at it, compared to me. And you know what? I completed the last question in Differentiation, and she didn't understand it (was thinking too much about it, she says). I'm assuming this last question was the E question (tricky buggers down in Welly if it wasn't), but here's what I did: Volume of sphere = (4/3)*pi*radius^3 Volume of hemispherical fish bowl = (2/3)*pi*radius^3Since the height, h, of the fish bowl at the centre was equivalent to the radius, you then differentiate like so: V = (2/3)*pi*height^3 (2/3)*pi*dV/dh = 3*height^2 dV/dh = 2*pi*height^2You were told that dV/dt = 80 cubic centimetres per second, so invert dV/dh and multiply dh/dV by dV/dt to get dh/dt: dh/dV = 1/(2*pi*height^2) dV/dt = 80 (dh/dV)*(dV/dt) = 80/(2*pi*height^2) Then substitute 5 for h (since we want to find the rate at which the height of water in the bowl is increasing when the level is at 5cm: 80/(2*pi*25) = 80/(50*pi) = 0.509 centimetres per second (3 s.f.)I bloody well hope I got that one right... Anyway, I found it pretty good compared to the prelims. It's like they picked the hardest questions from the last 20 years for our prelim (and they do have past papers dating back that far at my school). Oh well, I've finished my last exam, and I'm free to run through the long grass (or climb on the roof to try and get better reception of some radio stations...) :D

2004-11-23 03:14:00 | O MEAN!! I got that answer as well! .507cm/s in fact. but i got half way thro it and i thougt it was all rong, so i just finished the calculation, put the answer and left it - i actually forgot i even done it (mate asked me if i done it - sed no) but tht just brought it all back (great memory i no!) but what i thought i had done wrong was: >Since the height, h, of the fish bowl at the centre was equivalent to the radius I thought that at first, but then i relised this will be wrong, as if you state the radius is smaller, then the whole bowl will be smaller (will go from a tank to a soup bowl etc) and it will be calculated as this in teh equation.. BUT I HOPE I'M WRONG for you and me :p

2004-11-23 03:18:00 | Bloody hell. Two weltec and one school exam left - and I haven't studied for either. One tomorrow and two on Thursday :( | Growly (6) | |
2004-11-23 04:34:00 | That calc excellence question in differention seemed easy... maybe too easy - i probably got it wrong (although i think i got something like .5). but who cares? Its SUMMER - David
