291697 2004-11-14 06:35:00 Hi fellow F1ers,

I have some headphones that plug directly into the computer's audio socket, but the sound volume is quite low.

If I plug the headphones into a speaker with a headphone socket, the sound volume from the headphones increases. This is great, but sound also comes out of the speakers.

What I want is an adapter to put between the headphone jack and the speaker socket. I had some old headphones with a long jack, and no sound come out of the speakers, and this is what I wanted. Those old headphones broke, so now I have new headphones with a shorter jack.

Are there adapters to fix this, and what should I be looking for?

I have the master mixer controls all at the max, and the speaker don't work with the speaker off, but headphones plugged in the speaker.

I use them so you should have no problems locating the right one at the local mall, pc or music shop.

291703 2004-11-14 19:45:00 Most "headphone sockets" SHOULD cut the speakers out whan the headphones are plugged in.

This is a function of the socket, when the correct size plug is inserted. It has an internal switch that disconnects the speakers.

Just why it's not working for you is unclear, but it suggests that the plug is not quite "standard" on your headphones, or the socket is malfunctioning.

That is the issue you need to address, I believe. I do not see it as needing an "adapter" to fix it.
