292787 2004-11-16 03:45:00 As I mentioned in an earlier thread I have taken it upon myself to source, install and provide some tuition and technical backup for a small number of computers to be made available in houses that provide long-term accommodation for people with Special needs in Wanganui .

The problem that has arisen is that due to my habit of giving away any computer gear that is of no use to me to people that can make use of it, My stock of working used components/computers is depleted .

I have been able to provide 1 working computer for them, of which the monitor has just started to fail on, and I have a second system that I am currently in the process of getting up and running, Hopefully the replacement HD is all that is needed .

Now for the purpose of this thread, I would ask that if anyone has a working computer that is no longer used that they would like to see going to a worthwhile cause to consider donating it .

These people have no expectations, and are very grateful for anything that improves their quality of life, so specs are not important, if it can run Win98 then it fits the bill perfectly . (although anything below a Pentium is probally stretching it a bit,a 200mhz computer is about the sweet spot)

If anyone is willing to help with any components, computers or monitors then it would be greatly appreciated, not only by me but those that will get the benefit of your generosity .

If we get more then the required amount of computers then I know many more special needs people out in the community that would love to have a computer .

If you would like to help you can contact me

Please note that delivery cost will have to be taken care of by the donator, and that broken computers will be of little use due to the time and cost involved in fixing them, but working comps with missing components will be of use .

292788 2004-11-16 04:02:00 can you elaborate on the delivery costs part of that metla. Are they going to organise a courier to come around and pick up the equipment or will we be reimbursed at some stage in the future? I have some equipment that I dont mind parting with for a good cause, but dont really have any spare funds to be sending stuff around the country.
Thanks.

Many groups around the country recycle old stuff.

Why sling off at it ?
