292638 2004-11-15 22:28:00 hi there, i wanna benchmark my graphics card (gecube radeon 9600se) and i have seen 3dmark03 and 3dmark05 which one should i get?, the scoring is different isnt it?, i would like to know the recommended one because its a big download over 56k :D and i wanna get the best one :D
im gonna benchmark it on omega drivers vs ati drivers, just to see the difference.

292639 2004-11-15 22:31:00 Your card will struggle to run 05(it will probally do less then 1fps in most of it),but still give a score at the end so you can compare different drivers.

03 will be the better choice, but your card will still struggle to run it.

I prefer 01.....

292640 2004-11-15 22:37:00 3DMark03 is bias and widely regarded as completely irrelivant. Both ATi and Nvidia cheat heavily, optimizing drivers etc. 3DMark05 is better, but still not perfect, i would expect a very low score on a 9600SE.

If you want to compare your video card to others on the market your better off using actual games. DOOM3 and HLF2 are both popular as they represent the latest technology, Farcry is also popular along with UT2k4.

If all your doing is downloading 3DMark to see how you video card performs, i would reckonmend not wasting the bandwidth, just do a google search. Tomshardware have a good article comparing cards ranging from the lowly MX440 to the X800 XTPE. Some of the scenes rendered in the benchmarks are very impressive and possibly the only reason to use the benchmarks, any comparrisons gained from 3Dmark software should be taken with a grain of salt.

292641 2004-11-15 22:43:00 I would agree with Pete, I use a fps counter while playing games to monitor how well its running, and how performance changes are made via reconfiguring the settings.

Many games have a counter built in that wil bring up a the running fps,for others a program like Fraps will do the trick.

The idea being to lower settings to balance the framerate against visual candy,Things like dust and shadows can have a large impact on performance.

292642 2004-11-15 22:45:00 ok i see, i know its not the best card, but oh well thats what i have :p, ill check out some reviews Prescott (11)
292643 2004-11-15 22:46:00 I would say use the ut2003 benchmark tool (if you have ut2003) or download 3D Mark 2001 SE, because its more fair and its only about 40 MB. crazy monkey (6347)

My card wouldn't even run the latest 3dmark,let alone get 1 fps,Very few people have the best cards and even they would struggle with it . . . .
