292544 2004-11-15 20:11:00 When I used Win98, I knew how to get programs to start automatically upon boot up. Now with XP I cannot figure how to do it. There must be a Start Up folder somewhere that I can put a shortcut to the .exe file??

BTW, the program I want to have start automatically is Proxomitron, mentioned here on PF1 (Metla I believe). This is a great freebee that cuts out all of those annoying adverts, graphics, etc etc from web pages, meaning that pages load faster. More at: http://proxomitron.org Ohhhhh no! That site says Proxomitron is dead :(

Try: http://www.proxomitron.info/

and

www.proxomitron.info

292546 2004-11-15 20:33:00 Yes, OK, but I cannot 'paste' the shortcut there.

And if I go into C drive, Programs, the Startup Folder is not there.

292548 2004-11-15 20:48:00 OK viper, I pasted it. :)

If it does not work when I reboot, I will come back - otherwise THANKS.

292551 2004-11-15 21:05:00 Your other option is to have Proximitron launch your browser.

So to start surfing you would fire up Proximoton and then your browser would fire up as well,This saves the need to have it running constantly but also means its running when your surfing.

Helps if you don't like to have programs using resorces for no real reason, and while its footprint is small these background apps tend to multiply over time......

292552 2004-11-17 10:39:00 OK, now I see in the StartUp tab, the option for entering the line for whatever browser needed to start with Proxomitron .

Don't think I will use it now, but it is good to know . [Have a gig RAM so at last, after putting up with meager available RAM, etc, I can run a number of programs without worrying . ]

292553 2004-11-17 14:20:00 Remember this is XP you're talking about.

Make sure to turn off Paging (swap file) to make use of it, else you'll find XP will still use the hard drive as a dumping ground and still continue to try and make the system crawl.
