| 293153 | 2004-11-21 09:34:00 | Well I am glad you have Mandrake working fine for you anyway. :) I actually installed Fedora Core 3 on my play 933 box the other day, and I have all the lsmod and lspci commands working fine. I also just now went off and installed the nVidia driver out of interest, and it installed perfectly and FC3's xorg is now using it. I normally choose a Workstation type install and then customise it further with development/admin tools, so whether that made a difference? Not sure what might of happened to your install of FC3, but I think you got a bad deal for whatever reason. Don't let this put you off Fedora if you decide to change from Mandrake at any stage. |

| 293154 | 2005-03-01 03:34:00 | Has anyone found the solution to this yet? I have an identical problem, same card, fedora core 3, and the same error message. My computer can be started and it runs fine for a while, maybe a half hour, then the screen locks up and I have to hit the button to restart the computer. I have Fedora Core 3 with all the latest updates. Wayne |

| 293155 | 2005-03-01 04:27:00 | Hi Wayne, Welcome to PressF1 Just to make sure we are on the same wavelength, you have installed the nvidia driver successfully and edited xorg.conf to as instructed in the nvidia readme.txt? Now when you reboot, X won't load and it ends up creating a new default xorg.conf to recover from the error? There is an issue I have found since this thread was first started, whereby the nvidia module is not being loaded automatically. Try this, as root go to /etc/rc.local and open it up with a text editor. Then add this line to the end: /sbin/modprobe nvidia Here is my one as an example: #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts. # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff. touch /var/lock/subsys/local /sbin/modprobe nvidia After adding that line, go back to xorg.conf and re-edit it to reference the nvidia driver and change the module section accordingly and then reboot the machine. Let us know whether this works for you. :) |

Computer often locks before the graphical interface finishes loading. I did manage to have access long enough to run the Nvidia report log tool.
