292615 2004-11-15 21:20:00 I have recently upgraded to Excel 2002 and am having trouble entering simple numbers. For instance, when I enter 200, it immediately becomes 2. I can enter 200 if I include two decimal points. I have tried this with cells set at both “general” and “normal”

I am sure that somewhere in format or options there is a check box that needs to be checked or unchecked to resolve this problem. Does anyone know which one…?

Have you got Word? If so, try opening Word and inserting a table, and typing your number into there and see if it's any different. Post back here with the result.

I did as you suggested, but I encounter no problem entering numbers into a Word table... They appear as entered.

292618 2004-11-15 21:45:00 Does this happen on new excel spreadsheets, or are they existing ones that you had before you upgraded?

292619 2004-11-15 22:01:00 Good question. It does exactly them same thing when I open and try to enter data into existing spreadsheets.

I'm sure that it is setting somewhere in the programme that needs resetting...

292622 2004-11-15 22:46:00 Thanks Johnboy. I'll check it out. The annoying thing is that I'm sure that it's something quite simple...!! Sami (667)
292623 2004-11-16 00:33:00 That is weird - I don't see how a decimal place setting would change anything entering a whole number - or why it would be doing this...

I would be interested in the outcome - maybe some sort of global formatting/style option has been modified?!

You could always try Service Packing it if all else fails...

292624 2004-11-16 00:48:00 Hi...........try clicking 0n Tools/Options then click on the edit tab. Uncheck Fixed Decimal if it is checked. That could be the problem wooda2 (4837)
