293513 2004-11-18 07:53:00 my internet is not working well at all for the last 2 days..

I can only get to a few web sites, F1 is all good , ihug.co.nz is good.

xtra.co.nz is bad. a number of other sites are bad.

when i say bad i meen that there is no data to the site.

i have DNS to the site just no date.

ping www.xtra.co.nz gives timeout.

opening web browser to www.xtra.co.nz gives timeout.

being that i can see sites like F1 i would think the issue is not at my end, I have changed nothing in months.

do you think the issue is with IHUG??

I have been on hold to IHUG for half an hour.

I might be looking at a new ISP after this..........

I am on a dialup connection that is shared through a unix system.

fault is same on my windows box and on the unix server that has the modem.

293514 2004-11-18 08:01:00 I think there are bandwidth issues all over tha place. It could be that a whole lot more people have signed up to higher speed plans of late, but I doubt that is anywhere near the whole story.

293515 2004-11-18 08:07:00 I had probs the other day , but the last 2-3 days have been ok on Ihug.

I'm on their dialup too.

Altho I didnt get timeouts, nothing showed at all! On any site.

The only programs I could use were liveupdate. Or programs that u can update thru the program itself.

I checked the Ihug site (WHEN, I did manage to get something), to check their MOTD, there was nothing there to say anything was wrong.

BUT I did fix a mates pc the other day, with that very prob. He could connect, BUT couldnt go anywhere! (BUT at LEAST you got something), he got nothing at all.

When I checked it out, he had picked up beagle.aw the worm, which shut down his firewall (NIS 2003), and installed 175 exe files lol (crack files etc)> Once I got the tool from symantec and removed the entry, everything was up and running again.

293516 2004-11-18 08:23:00 IHUG SUX!!!!!!!!!

so after being on hold for 55 minutes, i was told that yes there is an issue for dail up users, it has been an issue for a few days, a tech is looking in to it, there is no ETA, when i asked why this fault is not on the ihug website as a network fault i was told, "its only affecting dial up users so we dident think it was a big problem."

so at the moment i am paying for an internet connection that lets me see about 1/3 of the internet and they dont know when if will be fixed.

293517 2004-11-18 08:23:00 A friend of mine is on ihug and can't even connect to the service at the moment - it's at their end (I presume it's an LPC error). Growly (6)
293518 2004-11-18 08:35:00 Ihug is not accepting a logon from me this evening (Ultra subscriber) Juicytree (5822)

I think orcon might of hit the nail on the head here:

> Bandwidth

> too much traffic all at the same time, as the average
> allocated capacity for DSL users is the same for all
> ISPs.

From here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)

So this could be the same problem here?

293520 2004-11-18 10:50:00 I'm sorry to be off topic, but that quote from orcon reminded me - it seems in everything on their site their is some telecom bashing? Bit tiring really... I mean, clearly ihug sucks too :p Growly (6)
293521 2004-11-18 20:06:00 And today I had to reboot .

The first time I logged onto Ihug today, I connected, BUT couldnt go anywhere .

I was GOING to disconnect then reconnect, BUT I couldnt disconnect (The dial up connection window froze), so I had to reboot, to reconnect / get back onto Ihug .

293522 2004-11-18 20:15:00 Couldn't connect to Paradise ADSL this morning .

Checked my setting, pinged the odd thing, no go . Phoned Paradise, - 5mins to get through :) . The conversation went, in part, something like this : "yes there is a problem with both dialup and ADSL, it shouldn't be long before your back up because the dialup issue was resolved 1/2 hour ago" . Your having a busy morning then? "yes, very" . What's the problem?, "I can't really say" both down sounds to me like it could be Telecom "(laughs) I'm not allowed to say that" aha! so it is? "(laughs again) wellll, no I'm really not allowed to say that (chuckle)" .

Thoroughly pleasant person BTW, who was probably dealing with a bunch of people in various states of humour .

Is it growing pains? Hopefully all the ISP's are talking nicely to Telecom and this will be but a temporary blip .
