293534 2004-11-18 19:14:00 dont worry, shared video memory and apllications. Xp is good at managing resources such as this, it may give a message such as low on system resources but unlike ealier OS's it will sort the problem for you by swapping out to virtual memory (hard drive) therefore freeing up sufficent ram for you to continue working.
Also it would pay to do a full virus, and spy-ware scan just in case.

(ROFLMAO - - And all typed with a straight face too! How does he do it?)

If you attained a state where the RAM was nearly all free, nearly all of the time, one wonders what the RAM is for. If it's not in use, why have it? I guess the ideal is to have the swap file used for 20 Bytes once in a fortnight or so.

293536 2004-11-18 20:52:00 AFAIK XP is swapfile based OS. That is, the swapfile is used not just as spillover utility but where XP is operating from most of the time in order to leave RAM free for apps.
Read that somehwere.

293537 2004-11-18 21:24:00 yeah it sucks like that... even if you specify a small one or none it still makes one by itself.

I've got enough RAM for everything to be loaded but it wont use it properly... grr...

293538 2005-02-27 17:07:00 I fully understand your problem. I run various machines with different memory (128Mb, 256Mb, 512Mb). You might like to try a program I use called FreeRAM XP Pro v1.4 which you can get at www.download.com. Right now I'm on a PIII 733Mhz with 128Mb ram using Windows 98se, Firefox, and I have 63 Mb of free ram. I use it on all my computers, and it's FREE. TWarren (6419)
293539 2005-02-27 19:34:00 You would actually want your ram to be full.

thats its job.
