293459 2004-11-20 07:36:00 You can do a parallel install on the same drive then remove the original OS later. Obviously it's quite a bit more involved than a standard install and I'm not sure of the pitfalls involved, done it with win2k once which got me out of the crap but there were still lingering issues. If you search the MS Knowledge Base for it, there should be a truckload of info.

293460 2004-11-23 00:42:00 installed my new hd as master
have 2 partitions C and D
old hd now on slave
partitions E and F

i added this line into boot.ini
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

i think this points to my 2nd hd and its first partition
which is where my old 2k system is installed

now when i choose to boot into 2k a message shows up telling me that hal.dll is missing from window root\system32

i checked and the file is there
i think that window just don't know where to look for it

is there a way to point win2k to this file properly?
or is this kind of install too screwed up and i should just set up my xp and forget about 2k...

293461 2004-11-23 00:57:00 I think it should be rdisk(1)partition(0)

293463 2004-11-23 08:54:00 what about disk(1) ? HadO (796)
293464 2004-11-23 08:57:00 You were advised this method was fraught with problems .

Do a disk backup of the slave .

Option 1
Reinstall Windows 2k taking the repair option followed by reinstalling Windows XP

Option 2
Get your wallet out
