2004-11-18 07:50:00 | This is comming from someone who has Never Used a X BOX or PS2 or a any type of console which is out there :O > Bear in mind, though, that you kids may want the Xbox > due to peer pressure, and that's as good a reason as > any for choosing - peer pressure is far, far more > important to kids now than when we were young. Trust me, if peer pressure is involved in choosing for example between a Computer BOX or PS2 is NOT a Good thing because as soon as your kids get older they soon will be asking "can I have this", "can I have that" etc.... all because of peer pressure. My 5 cents :)

2004-11-18 08:21:00 | pppfffftttt consoles, what a joke :p i would rather have a pc any day, can your ps2 surf the net and type up a word document?? how about no :p. pc's IMO have way better graphics and they are upgradeable where as a ps2 or a xbox you cant, you have to wait until something like a ps3 comes out, whereas if you wanna upgrade your pc, ya just buy a cpu if thats what you want my 0.5x10-142

2004-11-18 09:02:00 | Prescott: Does this really have to degenerate into another silly argument. The topic originator never asked about playing games on a PC. A console is a completely different proposition entirely. It's not even in the same market. And just to help you out, 0.5x10-142 = -137

2004-11-18 09:18:00 | Interesting thoughts so far - gee I've even had the wife reading this! I'm open to suggestions as per my post I guess what i'm saying is would buying a console offer anything different that the boys can't already do on the computer I mean they have clocked the Halo demo and I guess they would like the full game despite it being R16, having a P4 computer, do I need to buy a console to attach to the tv or just buy the pc version. After all an XBox has a hard drive, and graphics card and CD/DVD Rom drive all it is is just a basic cut down pc that you can't print from or email etc

2004-11-18 09:25:00 | PC was an option the author was considering. Prescott's post included reasons he thought PCs superior, so IMO it is a valid suggestion. I would go for a PS2 because they are IMO more stable by far than PC and XBOX, and unlike a PC are designed to run all games made for them. Cheers George

2004-11-18 09:28:00 | All an xbox brings is game selection, ease of use,and multiplayer....in return you get graphics on par with a mid range pc from 2 years ago, displayed at low res. Sounds like you already have a capable PC,so you would indeed be spending money on something far less then what you already have,....but....the ultimate xbox pack i saw on tele tonight was good value. Maybe the pile of timber would be an alternative....I remember as a lad spending weeks building a cart, then taking it over to the local park, and getting beaten up and the cart taken off me before i got to take it on its maiden voyage........lmao,rough neibourhood......

2004-11-18 09:43:00 | Because you have a reasonable PC, whether or not to get a console depends on your budget. That is, a console can free up the computer, lure the whole family onto the games (hours of family fun :D), play multiplayer much better and a bit more. -- BUT -- You already have a machine that is capable of playing games at quality on par with a console. For the price of a PS2 or and XBOX, you could by a decent graphics card and a hand controller even. Then you would have a highly capable rig for your kids to enjoy with countless games. The final say is yours. If you have the money buy a console, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It has other uses than games too (another DVD player for example). But if you would rather economise, spend some money on the PC - your kids will thank you and the TV will be free. And you will not be using two units for a task that can be accomplished with one. Hope this helps Cheers George

2004-11-18 09:56:00 | We have a mediocre PC, a fast PC, a PS1, PS2, even a SNES. They each have their own unique uses. It's easier and more fun to slouch on the couch with a console, something you really can't do with the PC. On the other side of the coin you can't play Rise of Nations on the PS2. 2 kids sharing a PS2 or Xbox can have hours andhours of fun, even challenge mum or dad. If all their mates have Xboxes they may be able to borrow or swap games. As I said earlier, we found that their are more games for younger kids on the PS2 than Xbox - but that may not be the case with older kids. Halo 2 is the buzz at school right now, but that will change when the next PS2 biggie gets released.... Ratchet & Clank 3 this week, according to our 9 year old - that's already taking over the chat at school. If you haven't got a spare TV, get one to use with the console, otherwise you'll never see the 6 o'clock news again! If they want to play Mario Brothers get a SNES ;)

2004-12-09 04:09:00 | Just an update Bought an XBox in the end, Xmas pack for $300, didn't give it to the boys for their birthdays, instead it's hidden away for christmas as i figured the got way too much for thier birthdays anyway. As they don't treat CD's/ DVD's that well at times can games be loaded onto the hardrive or backup copies be made?
