| 293192 | 2004-11-17 06:23:00 | This IRC server is designed as an independant, unofficial IRC server for PressF1 users, an alternative to ChatF1 . It was created on the 13th of this month (November) and now often has 3 - 9 or so PressF1 members on at once . The details of the IRC server are: Server: irc . jgi . co . nz IP Address: 222 . 152 . 55 . 106 Channel name: IRCF1 Port: 6667 (Standard IRC port) You can use any username you like (non-offensive), but using your PressF1 user name will help others recognise you . If you are concerned about privacy, you may wish to note that messages you type are unencrypted, however as the server is completely private, messages go straight to my server and back . No public IRC servers are involved . If you would rather use an encrypted server, Chilling_Silence is in the process of setting one up . The server is moderated by myself (George) or certain other people who happen to be online when I am not and I give OP permissions to . A person starting a channel is ChannelOP of that channel, however I (owning the server) reserve supreme control . Please note that this IRC server is NOT run by PressF1, but is however designed for use by PressF1 members . The server should not be down for more than 30 minutes per week or so, so if it is please send me an e-mail . The chat server can be used for many things, including: - General discussion - Instant answers to a problem - A place to dump stuff that doesn't quite warrant an OT thread - and anything else you feel like, so long as it is not breaching the rules . The rules are: -- Friendly conversation only: no insulting other users -- No flooding with messages -- You may not use any names which imply you are an Op, such as 'channelOp', 'God', 'Moderator' . These names are only allowed to be used by me . -- To ensure somebody really is me, the Host name (looks like an e-mail address) will end in @JG-WS10 . That is, if I am on my home PC . I can also manually Op myself if I am not a channel Op -- Lastly, use your common sense and don't say anything you wouldn't say on PressF1 . The chat server features the ability for any user to create a new channel or join an existing one simply by typing in /join [channelname] . Remember that the standard channel is called 'IRCF1' . One can also have a private conversation with anybody on the server, simply by double-clicking their name in most clients . To use IRC, you need an IRC client . Here I will provide links to some IRC clients: Windows Clients Trillian ( . trillian . cc/downloads/" target="_blank">www . trillian . cc) - Good looking, and can also use the ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and AIM . Can minimize to system tray IceChat ( . download . com/3000-2150-10117404 . html?tag=lst-0-4" target="_blank">www . download . com) - A lot of features, IRC only, can also minimize to system tray mIRC (http://www . mirc . com/) - One of the best IRC clients, however it is not free Linux Clients xChat (http://www . xchat . org/) - A decent, free linux client - you do have to register however Once you have downloaded and installed your client, simply log on with the details at the top of this post . Have fun on the server :) . |
