2004-11-19 10:16:00 | Well, as my Seagate harddrive has packed up (I used to think hi9ghly of them) I'm going to buy another brand. Who's good? Who to stay away from? Maxtor, Samusung, Western Digital, Toshiba?

2004-11-19 10:38:00 | I know the HDD that packed up was Seagate, but... Seagate. The are IMO the best brand of hard drive, in speed, cost and reliability - which is all that really matters. How old was it? All drives pack up after a few years you know. HTH Cheers George

2004-11-19 12:28:00 | Then you don't need to choose a new one, do you? Just RMA it, and you don't have to worry - you'll automatically stick with the most superior of HDD makers :D. Have fun RMAing Cheers George

I've just had my 22 month old seagate drive replaced under warranty with a refurbished one. Apply online for an RMA number then you will need to send it to their office in Singapore. Costs $31 NZ air post, and took two weeks for mine to arrive back. |

2004-11-19 19:06:00 | By the way all hardrive brands are okay. Personally I prefer seagate but even they have bad runs of drives sometimes. Once purchased an 80 gig seagate barracuda and had it replaced 3 times in 2 months all due to same fault. Warrantee is something to look for go for a brand/ model with 3 years.
